This summer, I’ve been invited to Suceava Blues Festival in Romania as an ambassador and journalist! This marks a major milestone in my journey as both a music photographer and an advocate for blues culture, and I couldn’t be more excited to get involved in such a vibrant and dynamic event.
The Suceava Blues Festival has grown into one of Eastern Europe’s most celebrated blues gatherings, known for its incredible atmosphere, high-quality performances, and a diverse range of artists from across the globe. As a long-time fan of the blues, having the opportunity to attend as an ambassador is truly special. The fact that it is free to attend just makes in an all round special event
What I’ll Be Doing at the Festival
During my time at the festival, I’ll be fully immersed in capturing the music and the atmosphere through my lens. I’ll be photographing performances, interviewing artists, and writing reviews for Blues in Britain magazine, alongside a number of online platforms. Expect detailed reports on the festival’s lineup, which includes Ana Popovic, Ian Siegal and Sugar Queen Blues, showcasing the energy and talent of this year’s performers.
But it’s not just about the performances. One of the aspects I’m most looking forward to is running a workshop for local young people, focusing on concert photography. The opportunity to work with emerging photographers and share insights into how I approach live music shoots is something I truly value. Passing on knowledge, especially to the next generation of creatives, is an important part of the community spirit I cherish in this industry.
The Line-Up
This year’s festival promises to be an unmissable event, with performances from a range of world-class blues artists. Ana Popovic, Ian Siegal, Kai Strauss, John Montana and Sugar Queen Blues are among the highlights, and I’m particularly excited to see them live, especially in such a unique and intimate setting. Each artist brings their own style to the stage, making for a diverse and unforgettable festival experience.
Why Suceava Blues Festival?
What sets Suceava apart from other festivals is its warmth and welcoming atmosphere. Despite being an international event, there’s a real sense of local pride and community — not just from the organisers, but from the people of Suceava itself. It’s the kind of festival where everyone feels like part of the family, and I can’t wait to experience it in full.
Romania is quickly becoming one of the most exciting destinations for blues lovers, and the Suceava Blues Festival is a perfect representation of the country’s growing musical scene. From the performances to the festival’s broader cultural offerings, it’s clear that this event is set to continue its rise in prominence.
Looking Ahead
This summer promises to be an incredible adventure, both professionally and personally. I’m honoured to have been asked to contribute to such an important festival and look forward to meeting fellow blues enthusiasts and photographers along the way. There will be plenty of behind-the-scenes moments, photo tips, and festival highlights to share as I dive into this unforgettable experience.
